Learn about Factlink Improvement Proposals (FLIPs) and how they shape the future of the Factlink protocol.
FLIPs (Factlink Improvement Proposals)
Factlink Improvement Proposals (FLIPs) are design documents used to propose changes to the Factlink ecosystem. FLIPs serve as the primary mechanism for suggesting new features, gathering community input on issues, and documenting design decisions that shape the Factlink protocol on Solana.
FLIPs provide a structured way to track the progress of implementations and ensure transparency in protocol development. Examples of common FLIPs include adding new query types for the Optimistic Oracle, whitelisting additional tokens for bonds and rewards, or adjusting Factum DVM parameters like voting phase durations or reward emission rates. FLIPs are presented to Factlink tokenholders for voting through the Solana Governance UI via Realms DAO to determine whether they will be accepted or rejected.
FLIPs are required to provide a concise technical specification of the proposed feature and a clear rationale for its inclusion. They are modeled after UMA Improvement Proposals (UMIPs), Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), and Solana Improvement Documents (SIMDs), adapting best practices from these frameworks to suit Factlink's needs on the Solana blockchain. A template for FLIPs will be provided in the Factlink documentation (coming soon at docs.factlink.xyz) to guide proposers in structuring their submissions.
The FLIP process encourages community participation, ensuring that all major changes to the Factlink protocol are thoroughly discussed, vetted, and approved by tokenholders. This collaborative approach fosters innovation while maintaining the integrity and security of the ecosystem.
